Reading aloud is more than sharing a story—it is an act of connection. When an adult reads to a child, something deeper than words happens. A voice becomes a bridge, carrying emotion, rhythm, and meaning. Children do not only hear language; they feel it.
Through reading aloud, children learn how stories sound before they learn how to read them on their own. They absorb vocabulary, sentence structure, and the music of language naturally, without pressure. A book becomes a safe space where curiosity is welcomed and imagination is free. But perhaps the most important gift of reading aloud is emotional. It teaches children to listen, to reflect, and to empathize. Stories help them recognize feelings—their own and those of others—and gently guide them in understanding the world. In a fast and noisy world, reading aloud slows time. It tells children: You matter. This moment matters. And those moments stay with them long after the book is closed.

“In a world where you can be anything, be kind.”
— Martin Luther King Jr. “Life’s most persistent and urgent question is: What are you doing for others?” — Martin Luther King Jr. Today we remember Martin Luther King Jr. and the values he taught us. Kindness is not a weakness. It is a responsibility we share as a community. When we choose kindness, we help create a safer, healthier, and more respectful world for everyone. Being kind does not mean we always agree. It means we listen, respect differences, and use words to share ideas instead of hurting others. Our differences are not something to fear—they are part of what makes our world beautiful. At Emma’s Place, we believe children learn by example. When adults model kindness, empathy, and respect, children learn how to care for others and how to build a better future together
