At Emma’s Place, we love celebrating inspiring figures who have shaped the world through curiosity, imagination, and discovery. This month, we are highlighting Alan Turing, born in June 1912, a brilliant mind whose ideas continue to shape the way we live today.
From an early age, Alan Turing showed an exceptional talent for mathematics and logical thinking. He believed that complex problems could be solved step by step—an idea that would later transform the world of science and technology.
During World War II, Turing worked in secrecy at Bletchley Park, where he played a vital role in breaking the German Enigma code. His work is believed to have helped shorten the war and save millions of lives, even though it remained classified for many years.
Alan Turing is often called the Father of Computer Science because he introduced groundbreaking ideas that became the foundation of modern computing. He imagined a “universal machine” capable of solving problems through logical steps—an idea that led directly to today’s computers.
He also developed the famous Turing Test, which explores whether machines can think and communicate like humans. This concept continues to influence discussions about artificial intelligence today.
Although his life ended too soon, Alan Turing’s legacy lives on in every digital device, every algorithm, and every innovation that shapes our modern world.

One surprising fact is that summer is not hotter because Earth is closer to the Sun. Instead, the Northern Hemisphere is tilted toward the Sun, allowing sunlight to reach us more directly and for longer periods each day. This increased amount of sunlight warms the land and air, creating the warm temperatures we associate with summer.
Exploring these fascinating facts helps children appreciate the beauty of nature and understand the science behind the seasons. Through curiosity and observation, we can discover that summer is much more than sunshine and vacations—it is a wonderful opportunity to learn about our incredible planet.
