The Dark, Dark Night by Christina Butler  FIVE STARS.
The Dark, Dark Night is a charming picture book about friendship, courage, and the way our imagination can sometimes make our fears seem much bigger than they really are.
After sleeping through the winter, Frog wakes up to find that spring has arrived. Excited to return to his pond, he spends the day happily playing with his friends. As evening comes and the sky begins to grow dark, Frog decides he would like to go for a swim. He borrows a lantern and makes his way to the pond, but when he arrives, he sees something frightening—a huge Pond Monster!
Scared, Frog runs away and asks Hedgehog to come with him to investigate. Together they return to the pond, but the monster appears even bigger than before. Then Rabbit joins them, and later Badger, and each time the mysterious creature seems larger and more terrifying.
Will Frog and his friends ever be brave enough to swim in the pond again?
Christina Butler uses repetition beautifully to build anticipation and excitement while gently showing young readers how fears can grow in our minds. With each new character, the “monster” becomes bigger, reminding children that sometimes what we imagine can feel much scarier than reality.
Through humor, friendship, and a reassuring message, The Dark, Dark Night helps children understand that fear is a natural feeling and that having supportive friends can give us the courage to face it.

El 28 de julio es una fecha muy especial para todos los peruanos, porque celebramos la Independencia del Perú y recordamos la riqueza de nuestra historia, nuestras tradiciones y nuestra diversidad cultural.

When temperatures rise, animals face many of the same challenges that people do. Unlike us, however, they cannot simply turn on a fan or air conditioner. Instead, they rely on amazing adaptations that help them survive the heat.
Elephants cool themselves by flapping their large ears, which help release body heat. Dogs pant because they have very few sweat glands, allowing warm air to leave their bodies through their breath. Birds often bathe in shallow water and spread their wings to cool down. Bees work together by fanning their wings inside the hive, creating airflow that keeps the colony at a safe temperature. Many wild animals, such as rabbits, foxes, and kangaroos, avoid the hottest part of the day by resting in the shade and becoming active during the cooler morning or evening hours.
These fascinating behaviors remind us how well animals are adapted to their environments. They also remind us that our actions can make a difference.
How You Can Help Animals During Hot Weather

•  Place fresh water outside for birds and wildlife.
•  Add a shallow birdbath to your garden.
•  Preserve trees and shady spaces where animals can rest.
•  Never leave pets in a parked vehicle, even for a few minutes.
•  Walk dogs early in the morning or later in the evening when temperatures are cooler.

By understanding how animals cope with summer heat, children learn not only about science and nature but also about compassion and responsibility toward all living things.
