But first, what is to be a critical thinker? And why is it important for kids? Critical thinking Is the ability to imagine, analyze and evaluate information to determine its validity. Critical thinking is an essential part of problem-solving, decision making and goal-setting. Moreover, Research showed that kids who lack critical thinking skills face a higher risk of behaviour problems. "If kids are not being critical thinkers, then they are not thinking carefully," says Amanda Pickerill, Ph.D.
Now How to teach critical thinking to young children? First of all, we need to be good role models. Play with them regularly, ask questions, "what if." teach them to solve a problem in a real or imaginary situation, help them brainstorm a variety of solutions to the same problem and then pick one to see if it works. Encourage them to ask questions; Practice making choices; Encourage open-mindedness; part of becoming a critical thinker is the ability to be objective and evaluate ideas without bias. Some concepts that could be included to discuss are diversity, inclusiveness and fairness. In conclusion, developing a critical mindset is one of the most important life skills you can teach your child. Especially today, with all the "information" around us, they need these skills to make informed decisions, form healthy relationships and determine what they value and believe. Teaching them to examine the world around them critically gives them an advantage that will serve them for life
But remember the special time with parents and friends. Children will treasure moments when they do things for the first time, go somewhere new, have a conversation, listen to bedtime stories, and feel loved and secure. Those are the moments that will stay in their memories all their lives.
Like many youngsters, Baby Lion gets into trouble because he acts without thinking about the consequences. He lacks self-regulation, and he can not control himself.
Lou and his mane's story pinpoint the role of the little brother's action, something prevalent among siblings. He took something precious from his big brother without asking, and on many occasions, it could end in a big fight. Fortunately, Lou was relieved to see his mane again and noticed that his little brother regretted his actions. He took a deep breath, put on his mane and showed his little brother understanding. There are some ways for parents to minimize those situations, giving clear rules, teaching the children to manage conflict and giving each child their own time and space with you and alone.
