A Short Break for Renewal
I would like to share that I will be taking a break from social media for the next month as I go on vacation. This time away is an opportunity to rest, explore new places, and connect with different people and cultures. As a writer and educator, I find that stepping away from routine often opens space for new ideas, deeper reflection, and creative inspiration. I look forward to gathering experiences that will enrich my future writing and educational projects. While I am away, you are warmly invited to explore my websites:
Thank you sincerely for your ongoing support and connection. I look forward to returning refreshed and sharing new work with you. See you soon

Mother’s Day Poem This poem is created for young children to help them understand the meaning of “Mom” in a simple and heartfelt way. Through gentle words and easy rhythm, it highlights the love, care, and protection that mothers give every day.
At Emma’s Place, we believe poetry is a beautiful way for children to learn emotions, language, and connection. This poem celebrates the special bond between mother and child in a way that is easy to feel and understand. A celebration of the love, strength, and warmth that mothers bring into our lives. This poem is a tribute to the deep and gentle bond between a mother and her child—a love that guides, protects, and stays with us through every stage of life. Happy Mother’s Day to all the incredible moms around the world
Mom
Mom is not just a word, mom is a feeling of love so strong. A love so warm, so deep, so kind, it helps us grow all life long. She is a shield that keeps us safe, a gentle light in what we do. With words, with hugs, with just a smile, she shows us love that’s always true. And in her care, we learn each day what “Mom” means in every way. HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY
May Around the World: Celebrations, History, and LearningMay is a month filled with meaningful celebrations, cultural traditions, and opportunities for children to explore the world
The month begins with International Workers' Day, recognizing the contributions of workers around the world. Soon after, families celebrate Mother's Day, observed in Canada, the United States, and across Latin America. In countries like Peru, this day is especially meaningful, with families gathering to honor mothers and caregivers. On May 12, International Nurses Day highlights the important role nurses play in caring for people, inspired by the legacy of Florence Nightingale. In Canada, Victoria Day celebrates Queen Victoria and marks the unofficial beginning of summer. In the United States, Memorial Day honors those who lost their lives in military service. May is also a wonderful time to introduce children to influential historical figures. Artists like Salvador Dalí inspire creativity, while thinkers such as Karl Marx and Sigmund Freud help us understand ideas that shaped the modern world. Cultural celebrations like Cinco de Mayo and global observances such as World Bee Day provide meaningful ways for children to learn about diversity, gratitude, and caring for others and our planet. At Emma’s Place, we believe May is a perfect opportunity to connect learning with real-world celebrations through engaging activities, videos, and printables designed especially for children.
Riddle Time!
May is a month full of wonder, celebrations, and learning opportunities! Invite children to explore these fun and engaging riddles about animals, special holidays, and inspiring people we remember this month. A playful way to think, learn, and discover!
“Play is often talked about as if it were a relief from serious learning. But for children, play is serious learning.” — Fred Rogers
Play is how children understand the world. It is their natural way of exploring, experimenting, expressing emotions, and building relationships. From a very young age, children learn through play in ways that are meaningful and lasting. Why Play Matters Through play, children develop essential skills across all areas of development:
Types of Play and Their Importance 1. Solitary Play Solitary play begins in infancy and continues into toddlerhood. In this stage, children play alone and are fully focused on their own activity. Why it matters:

In addition to these stages, children engage in different types of play that support specific areas of development:
Whether a child is building a tower, pretending to cook, or exploring nature, every playful moment is shaping their thinking, confidence, and creativity. At Emma’s Place, we believe in making learning meaningful through play. By providing opportunities for children to explore, imagine, and create, we support their natural development in a joyful and engaging way. Play is not just part of childhood—it is the heart of learning. Explore more activities, resources, and ideas at www.emmasplace.ca
This week’s highlight introduces one of my newest children’s books, Polly the Grumpy Elf—a heartwarming story that helps children explore emotions, understand the importance of expressing their feelings, and appreciate the value of friendship.
Feeling grumpy? So was Polly… One chilly morning, Polly wants nothing more than to stay in bed. But when her friends arrive, her gloomy day turns into an unexpected snowy adventure filled with surprises, laughter, and meaningful lessons. Through Polly’s journey, children discover that it’s okay to feel grumpy sometimes—and that kindness, understanding, and friendship can turn even the hardest days into brighter ones. Perfect for young readers learning to navigate their emotions and build meaningful connections. Visit emmasplace.ca and eugarellibooks.com to learn more and access free resources. Available on Amazon in paperback and eBook formats.
Happy World Book Day!
“Books are a uniquely portable magic.” — Stephen King “There is no friend as loyal as a book.” — E. Hemingway World Book Day is a beautiful reminder of the power and importance of reading in our lives. These two quotes capture, in a simple yet profound way, what books truly mean to us. Stephen King describes books as portable magic, and that idea resonates deeply. Every book we open becomes a doorway to new worlds, ideas, and emotions. Through stories, we travel across countries, cultures, and even time itself—all while holding a single book in our hands. Books allow us to imagine, to dream, and to grow in ways that shape who we are. Ernest Hemingway, on the other hand, reminds us of something equally meaningful: the companionship of books. A book is always there for us. In moments of joy, sadness, curiosity, or uncertainty, books offer comfort, guidance, and understanding. They never leave, never judge, and always have something to give. Books enrich our lives, expand our minds, and help us see the world through different perspectives. They teach us empathy, inspire creativity, and connect us to ideas far beyond our own experiences. Today, as we celebrate World Book Day, let us take a moment to appreciate the magic within every page and the loyal friendship that books offer us throughout our lives. Happy reading!
